To me, the small town rickety haunted houses, trails, warehouses and the like are much more disturbing and creepy than some of the productions you find in big cities - all the expensive special effects, makeup, over-the-top costumes - they seem more like a show than they scare me. Maybe it's the lack of street lights and the uncertainty of what's lies beyond in the woods - boogie men, drifters, weirdos, wild dogs, bats, wolves, rabid racoons... It all comes off considerably more sinister and panic inducing, to me.
Just outside Knoxville, TN in Lenoir City, TN is where the Bludgeon Family once lived. After their farm was foreclosed on and the authorities arrived to take control, they were met with a grisly scene. The remnants of this family's violent past are still there today. There is a "Dare to be touched' upgrade and there are two days in October where a family can attend and bring little one that might night be ready for the regular Bludgeon Family antics.

Sinister Tombs
Sometime in 1904 an Illinois Central train carrying Egyptian artifacts crashed en route from Nashville to Chicago in Eastview, Kentucky. Many of the items were never found and the list of items on that train even burned. Ever since then, it is thought that the town of Eastview has a curse upon it, as its relative prosperity has disappeared and deaths of unusual circumstances have been plenty. The woods surrounding the town are, no doubt, haunted and the tombs of the dead are as well.

Zombie Farms
Located in Athens, GA on the outskirts of town Zombie Farms is a commune of sorts for zombies. This haunted trail is like a nature walk in the dark, full of nefarious surprises. If you are also one of the un-dead yourself you are welcome to come and join the community of zombies. The trail takes about 30 minutes to complete and is open every weekend night in October.

The Crypt
Located in Hattiesburg, MS, when visiting The Crypt you'll not only walk through a Crypt of Gothic catacombs you'll also pass through the Caves of Hades (Greek God of the dead) and a New Orleans style Cemetery call Elysium. Maybe you can swing by Brett Favre's house while you're into and toilet paper his house, too!
