Essentials: Summer Blazer

The Summer Blazer, though unnecessary in terms of pragmatism, makes an already distinguished fellow a gentleman. It turns casual Saturday nights out for drinks to Nights on the Town and is sure to turn more heads than your v-neck t-shirt alone.

Zara - Linen Blazer

This linen blazer is the perfect accompaniment to khaki slacks and, of course, blue slacks or even a t-shirt and jeans. It's light weight, small lapels and built in pocket square would make you stand out at any wedding or backyard cookout at the boss' house. You won't find as stylish a blazer as this for under $100 and though many would consider Zara a budget clothing company their clothes are more well-made than many other more expensive garments I've owned...

Topman - Grey Puppytooth Skinny Blazer

Just as versatile as the one above, the Topman Grey Puppytooth Skinny Blazer is 100% cotton and a bit heavier and would thus be more suited for an evening out with your lady or with the guys to whichever classy establishment you so choose. It's super small houndstooth pattern, thus called "Puppytooth" and slightly wider lapel give a bit more of a formal look and one may in fact want to wear it to a dinner at the country club. It does not, however, have a breast pocket for your handkerchief.

Brooks Brothers - Fitzgerald Fit Seersucker Sport Coat

This just wouldn't be a blog for the South if we didn't include a seersucker blazer. This is probably not something you'd wear out on a Saturday night in Atlanta or Miami, but one could certainly pull this off in Charleston or a handful of the more traditional locales in Savannah. This breathable fabric made famous by Brooks Brothers gets its name from the Persian word "shir-u-shakar" which means milk and honey and refers to the fabric's smooth and puckered texture.

H&M - Linen Blend Blazer

Vented in the back, decorative button on the lapel and a linen/cotton blend make this H&M blazer is quite a bargain for $99. This jacket is suitable for most anywhere except maybe a funeral. Its woven Herringbone pattern radiates sophistication, but the fabrics and the cut emanates the casual side of summer we all look forward to all winter long.

Bonobos - Slim Fit Italian Cotton Blazer

This pastel pink blazer by Bonobos is no doubt a color of summer. The patch pockets are large and perfect for keeping a koozie or a bottle opener in for all those Terrapin Rye Ales or Sweetwater 420 IPAs you'll likely enjoy during our many muggy nights. And it's vented in back to help keep you somewhat dry if you happen to be at a sweltering outdoor wedding.
